The Pickup Artist...

With all the new forms of technology comes new forms of media, I suppose that's a given. However, in my short twenty-something years of life I have often thought "okay this has got to be a new low. No ones going to read/watch/listen to this crap (excuse the explict language lol )?" Anyways, time after time I am proven wrong and I find people love trashy news, propaganda, and reality t.v.. I admit, from time to time I enjoy my own form of garbage media (thanks People magazine). But really I think we've hit a new low. I hate to admit it but I came upon this reality show and thought to myself " self, change the channel, walk away, turn the t.v. off", but I couldn't. The Pickup Artist was like a car accident and I was the rubberneck that couldn't look away. My final conclusion: How far are we (society as a whole) willing to go for a few seconds of fame? Do these guys truly think a man by the name of "mystery" can help them find a lasting relationship? Do the producers think we're dumb enough to believe that these guys are wanting lasting relationships? Hello look at the name of your show. What are we teaching our youth concerning attraction, women, interactions with the opposite sex, communication and worth? This whole show revolves around the art of manipulation. I digress....My query is simple...does society shape the media or does the media shape society? (I know I know it's not that black and white, but it's still worth wondering).

Well sometimes I think the media portrays our current status as a society. To clarify not all of us but a good majority of us I think is portrayed by the media. But then I see MTV (sorry I had to pick on MTV) and how it seems to influence our younger generation. And I am not talking about the music…oh wait they still play music on MTV. So many of the shows are geared for the 15 to 18 age group and most of the shows are sexually explicit, and about just having fun. Are there actually any shows on MTV that teach anything worthwhile about life? To quote you “What are we teaching our youth concerning attraction, women, interactions with the opposite sex, communication and worth? Oh question, where are the parents of these kids who watch these shows?
I think it’s a 40% 60% spilt between who shapes who. And the 40% 60% alternates between our media and society. The media just takes advantage of the situation. “Let’s give the people what they want”, a little more sex, little more cheap entertainment, a little more violence, so at the end of the season the media has made their MONEY. As long as the media has this they can produce what they want. So they have the 60% control of influence. Oh but then we get to a point that our society freaks out and is like, hey wait why is there so much trash on TV. So we scream at “Hollywood”, so the media reacts “oh the people have spoken”, actually they just get scared by law suits and multimillion dollar fines, so the clean up their act. And for a while society get the 60% influence. And then it flips again and again and again. Like I said in the beginning I think we portray ourselves this way, it just depends on where the influence is coming from. Since we know have a communication overload across the world it’s very simple to show the condition of a people. Hmmm I hope this makes sence…I have a cold right now and my face hurts I have just been typing….lol

I talk WAY too much about absolutely nothing, but it's my own way of getting to what actually matters. Too analytical but at times it comes in handy. Enjoy hearing peoples stories. Get bugged by stereo-type people. Bad speller. Secretly lazy. Quasi OCD. Carry a constant frustration for the marginalization within America. Sarcastic. Suffer from (UL) aka uncontrollable laughter...never know when it's going to hit.
